If you have ever tried to "condition" yourself to learn a certain behaviour.

Then you'll know how impossible it feels. And yet, the truth is that conditioning takes almost no effort at all! Because conditioning is already a natural process taking place in our brains every single moment of every day.

Just look up the term "neuroplasticity" and you'll see I am telling the truth.

It is just that in our effort to get through life we condition our brain to habituate the wrong things.

Now imagine how this leads you to struggle emotionally.

Actually, before I tell you what the key is, I'll come back to that in a minute.

First, I want to show you what this problem of "wrong self-conditioning" looks like in real life.

A former client, Stacey (not real name) told me of how she developed a huge amount of anxiety and self-doubt. This made her feel like she is not good enough.

What was shocking though, was how this anxiety developed.

You see Stacey's mum was a strict headteacher. She taught Stacey to work hard and hold herself to very high standards.

As a result, Stacey became the best in everything she did. She was the family's prized treasure.

But that was where all Stacy's conditioning problems began...

You see, being the best worked very well for Stacey until she graduated from university...

Got a job...

Got married and had kids.

Because when all the adult responsibilities piled on, Stacey's life became anxiety-inducing.

She would wake feeling like she was bound to fail. She had way too much to do. Hence it was impossible to do everything to a high standard. Everywhere she looked she saw failure.

To make matters worse, Stacey got diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She felt physically drained and foggy all the time. And this affected her performance drastically too.

As you can imagine, Stacey wanted to learn healthy habits so she could get her life back in order again.

But no matter how hard she tried, she could not get herself to stop and relax. She could not stop stressing and worrying. Her brain had become conditioned to live life a certain way.

So now she felt stuck with no clue of how to live a fulfilling life again.

When I worked with Stacey... She realized that if she kept relying on achieving high standards and principles. It would be impossible to create healthy habits.

She began to balance things in her life. And the better she got at relying less on doing things to a high standard, the less anxious she felt. The more productive she became. Because she experienced increased energy and her vitality for life began to return.
